Aromatherapy for Parenting Journey

Greetings friends! I have been inspired today by a dear friend who is in process of her parenting journey and my desire to share with her (and now you all) a little gift that might help make the process a bit easier.

Aromatherapy has been a wild and enlightening exploration for me to feel into all of the ways that I can be more effective and satisfied. I am often found combining experimental aromatherapy with a new system of organization at work, or a shift in my schedule, to a coping strategy when stressors arise. Through food, sleep, exercise, process, and whatever else is pertinent for the occasion, I have found aromatherapy to be a great augmentation of whatever I am trying to do in my life at the time. I am not an herbalist or naturopath by any means, I merely have employed different strategies to feel better and reflected on their efficacy for my personal journey. Through our own process of discovery, we can all find the tools that suit us the best.

Many folks in my circles are on a pathway to parenting currently – Whether they are trying to conceive, adopt, connect with a surrogate, adjust to a new baby, or watch their babies fly from the nest for the first time…I am seeing families in function all around me unfold in big and beautiful ways. I have been thinking about ways aromatherapy might be able to contribute to easing this process on folks and would like to share a bit of that experience. Here are some of my favorites:

I have found damiana to be powerful for relaxation and libido stimulation – Whether you are dealing with the stress of navigating systems of assistive reproduction, and/or the process of working toward becoming parents is getting in the way of sexual connection with your partner, a cup of damiana tea while you wind down together may be helpful. You can find damiana most easily online – HERE is one online shop. Or you can also find at a bulk herb shoppe. I have seen warnings about using damiana during pregnancy, so be mindful of this if you are an intended carrier.

Lavender is one of my favorite herbs for relaxation. No matter where we are at in our parenting (or growing up) journey, I believe we could all use a little relaxation. Mild and calming, lavender massage oil (especially when used with a loved one) can be a great tool to use.

Perhaps you will find these useful, or perhaps you will find other tools that support your parenting journey – It’s all about finding what works best for you to make room for enjoying your family as it grows!
