The compensation for high-demand egg donors may also play a role, with some earning higher fees than others. You can expect an average cost of around $10,000, as well as an agency fee of $8,500. How Egg Donors Are Screened in Massachusetts

At Fertility Source Companies, we require potential egg donors to undergo multiple forms of stringent screenings and background checks. Before being added to our database, potential egg donors must undergo:

  • A lifestyle evaluation
  • A criminal background check
  • A personality profile
  • An overview of the donor's commitment level
  • A FDA compliance check
  • A recent pap smear result

Once matched, egg donors have to undergo several other screenings, all of which are completed at the intended parent’s fertility clinic. These include:

  • A complete physical exam
  • A blood test to screen for drug use or specific health disorders
  • A mental health screening (The Donor Source facilities upon match)
  • Genetic testing

The Egg Donation Process

There are multiple parts in the actual process of egg donation. Among them are the following:

  • You self-inject hormonal medication, typically once a day, for about 12 days, to stimulate the development of multiple eggs in a single ovulation cycle.
  • Blood and ultrasound tests are conducted to ensure the maturation of the eggs before their retrieval.
  • For the egg retrieval process, a thin needle guided by an ultrasound gently removes eggs from the ovarian follicles.
  • To ensure there is no pain during the egg retrieval process, you’ll be sedated, remaining semi-conscious for about 30 minutes.
