Rise in Demand for Surrogacy Services Spurs Recent Changes to Third-Party Assisted Reproduction Agency

IRVINE, Calif. (July 5, 2006) – The Donor Source International, LLC one of the nation’s largest and most comprehensive egg donor agencies, has expanded its third-party assisted reproduction services to include surrogacy.  Surrogacy services will be provided through The Surrogacy SOURCE and egg donor services through The Donor SOURCE.  Both branches will function under the umbrella of “Fertility SOURCE Companies” at 2151 Michelson Drive, Suite 125 in Irvine, Calif.

Surrogacy, one of the most popular reproductive technologies developed to enable infertile couples to have children, is on the rise. As infertility rates increase, so does the demand for surrogate arrangements. Studies show that one American couple in six is infertile or is having difficulty conceiving a child.  Less than a decade after the first birth under a surrogate contract was recorded in the United States, an estimate reported by the New York Times says that more than 300 babies are born each year under this type of arrangement.

Fertility SOURCE Companies will provide ‘gestational surrogacy’ (GS), currently the most popular form of surrogacy.  Gestational surrogacy is option for women with viable eggs but for medical reasons cannot carry a baby. The embryo is created via In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF), but not from the surrogate’s eggs, and transferred to the surrogate for gestation.  Children born through this type of surrogacy carry the genes of both biological parents and are unrelated to the surrogate carrier.

Fertility SOURCE Companies will offer surrogacy services in their California offices, and will soon be expanding to selected other states.  The agency has also incorporated a new logo to represent the scope of their enhanced services.  As they look toward the future, the agency is reviewing the introduction of egg freezing services in the year 2007.
